Meetings and Workshops
Climate and Cryosphere (CliC) invites you to participate in Sea Ice Day, a one-day workshop directly preceding the CliC Open Science Conference. The workshop is open to anyone, but we ask that you register for logistics. Attendance is limited to 50 participants and will work on a first come, first served basis.
This workshop is organized by the Antarctic Science Platform (ASP) and designed to appeal to people involved directly with ASP as well as guests who are curious to learn about mātauranga in the Platform. Participants will learn about Tikanga Māori, description and understanding of ASP karakia, construction of pepeha, pronunciation of te reo Māori, and reflection of “Sense of Place” fieldwork in Antarctica in November 2025.
This workshop will build directly on the outcomes of the 2024 Polar Early Career World Summit (PECWS), which identified key priorities for inclusive, interdisciplinary, and equitable ECR engagement in polar sciences. The session will feature a panel discussion to summarise the priority areas identified from the PECWS, reflect on lessons learned from previous IPYs, and explore possibilities for evolving the IPY-5 framework.
Climate and Cryosphere (CliC) invites you to participate Communicating Policy-Relevant Science to Decision Makers and the General Public, a workshop during the CliC Open Science Conference. The workshop is open to everybody. Early-career scientists are especially encouraged, as well as those who need to communicate their results to policymakers.
Using Climate Fresk, an established climate card game, as the example, this workshop demonstrates how an IPCC-grounded, chain-of-events activity can support discussion around relationships within the climate system.
The CliC OSC 2026 is proud to present an ECR Lightning Talk Series consisting of 2 sessions (1.5 hours each) on Thursday, February 12th. We will allow a maximum of 50 lightning talks, on a first come first serve basis. While lightning talks will be presented by early career researchers and scientists, everyone at the CliC OSC is welcome to attend.
SCAR INSTANT Workshop [CLOSED]
SCAR invites you to participate in a one-day INSTANT workshop at the end of the CliC Open Science Conference. The workshop is open to everyone (max 60 participants).
Activities
CliC welcomes all early career researchers, scientists, and scholars at the OSC to join us for a networking event at Space Place! This event is a chance to get to know new friends and colleagues over drinks (soft drinks, beer, and wine) and canapés after the first day of the CliC OSC. Please register here if you plan to attend.
In one of the harshest places on Earth, three women from different generations chase a hidden and ephemeral world beneath the Antarctic sea ice. Weaving personal stories with groundbreaking science, this is an intimate and deeply human portrait of life set against the immense scale of Antarctica, told with grit, wit, and surprising warmth. This screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the filmmaker and two of the featured researchers.
This public panel event will feature international experts discussing cryospheric tipping points and their impacts followed by an audience Q&A facilitated by Radio New Zealand climate change journalist Kate Newton.
The CliC OSC field trip will take participants along the length of the highest peaks of Kā Tiritiri o te Moana/the Southern Alps of New Zealand to see and learn about the glaciers and landscapes shaped by past ice.
